*A $600 food stipend is provided towards all non-host family students’ grocery costs. Students typically report spending $250-$400/month in addition to the food stipend. For additional details see the Housing section.

Note: Combining terms of study (e.g. a semester plus a summer program) includes a discount. If you sign up for more than one semester/program/course, you are entitled to a reduction of the Comprehensive Tuition Fee of the second semester/program/course in the following amount:

Additional Information
Family housing includes food. Students choosing other DIS-arranged housing options will, while in Denmark, receive a food stipend in Danish Kroner. The stipend equals the following: Spring or Fall semester: US$600. Students who arrange their own housing do not pay the Comprehensive Housing Fee.

The DIS fees are published 12-16 months in advance of the start of your semester. They are listed in US dollars and are guaranteed not to change once published. There are no hidden costs when attending DIS. All expenses covered by the Comprehensive Tuition and Housing Fees are clearly delineated in the above tables, as are any DIS-related optional expenses. As a non-profit organization, it is the policy of DIS to keep annual price increases to a minimum.

The Comprehensive Tuition Fee Includes

Semester and full-year students who add a summer program will receive a tuition fee reduction of US$ 500 off the summer program.
The Comprehensive Housing Fee Includes

Family Stay
- Recruitment of families and placement with host family

Kollegium Stay, Folkehøjskole Stay, DIS Residential Community
- Furnished room, towels, blanket, pillow and bed linen
- Kitchen equipment, dishes and utensils
- A DIS representative in most kollegiums and an administrator at the folkehøjskole for assistance with practicalities and information
- Maintenance of room and furnishings

Danish Roommate Stay

- A partial food stipend per semester (if allowed by home institution) to offset some food costs. The stipend is not intended to cover all food costs.
Family housing includes all meals during scheduled class weeks. Students choosing other DIS-arranged housing options will, while in Denmark, receive a food stipend in Danish Kroner, unless another arrangement has been requested by your university. For the folkehøjskole stay this food stipend will cover an obligatory dinner meal plan. The stipend equals $600 per semester.
On study tours, one meal per day is on your own. Expenses for food vary a great deal, but do not expect to spend less than US$ 400 per month. Cleaning is not included in any of the DIS-arranged housing options.
DIS-arranged housing is available during mid-semester breaks. DIS Residential Community and kollegium rooms are also available during the period between two semesters for full-year students if you decide to remain in the same room during the second semester.

Independent (Self-arranged) Housing
You are welcome to arrange your own housing in Copenhagen. DIS cannot assist with rent payments, deposits, furnishings, bedding, etc. But we do offer some advice and also post various room/apartment offers on DIS Forum (an intranet for accepted DIS students). Note that your local transportation costs are not included when choosing independent housing. The deadline for switching from DIS-arranged housing to self-arranged housing is one month prior to arrival. If you switch after this deadline, a cancellation fee of US$ 100 plus additional direct costs associated with the housing change will be applied.

School of Record Fee
DIS issues a Final Grade Report to the student after completion of the term of attendance. The Report is accepted by almost all U.S. universities. Your home institution determines whether credits from DIS will be accepted directly, or whether an official transcript from a United States accredited institution is needed. If this is the case, the University of Minnesota will act as the School of Record and provide an official transcript for a fee of $350, which will be added to your invoice.
Please check with your home institution as to whether a Final Grade Report from DIS is acceptable, or if an official transcript from the University of Minnesota is needed for you to receive class credit. This must be arranged prior to the beginning of the semester as part of the registration process.
Final Grade Reports and/or University of Minnesota official transcripts will only be issued if all fees have been paid to DIS and there are no academic or administrative holds on your record.
Personal Expenses
Based on the current rate of exchange, the cost of living in Denmark is slightly higher than in the US. Excluding food, former students have reported spending approximately $400 a month on average. This figure should be reduced or increased based on your own spending habits, but you should also budget for travel in Europe and for one meal per day during study tours.

Work
As a foreign student in Denmark you are allowed to work 15 hours a week. Before you obtain any kind of job it is imperative that you obtain a limited work permit. Please note that you will be solely responsible for finding a job; DIS is not able to help you in this matter.
Remember that DIS is an academically challenging program; therefore, you should be prepared for a fairly heavy course workload. Also remember that you will have program related study tours, finals, midterms, makeup classes and independent travel, making it difficult for you to commit to any job. Lastly, it is difficult to find a part-time job in Copenhagen, especially if you have no knowledge of the Danish language.
