Living with a host family was by far the most rewarding part of living abroad. By being forced to interact with Danes every day I learned so much more about Danish culture than any of my friends in any other housing situations.

Emma Ross Brandeis University

Fastelavn was fantastic - especially the DIS sponsored party. I loved just exploring Copenhagen on my own. I loved all the DIS sponsored things. It was just a great semester. I can't even think of solely one thing. I also loved working in my practicum.

Katherine Curley Brandeis University

I love Danish "hygge" (coziness) - I want to bring it back with me to the United States. The study tours were fun and interesting for the most part. I loved Rita, Carsten, and Suzanne: great teachers!

Randi Zegman Brandeis University

I loved my visiting family, the time I spent with them was really valuable to me. They really welcomed me into their home and it was nice to feel so conformable in a home environment so far away from my home. I also went to "Bordings Friskole" every Tuesday for lunch and ate with a 5th grade class. That time was really valuable for me because I got the opportunity to talk to kids who spoke English and together we could discuss cultural differences and discuss stereotypes of both Danish and American culture. I felt as though this time was SO valuable for both me and the students. I also loved my practicum sight and one of my highlights of the semester was that one of the teaching fellows at the pre-school where I work in Boston visited Denmark and I was able to show him my practicum sight. It was a great relaxed day where we climbed in trees with kids and caught bugs. Because of this visit I think that I will be able do do more outdoor activities with my pre-shoolers back home. Hopefully I will be able to use what I learned and bring it back to the US!
