Preliminary Application

If you would like to register your interest in studying abroad at DIS and/or to begin your application process, please complete the Preliminary Application Form. Application processes vary by university and, in some cases, by your intended term and program of study. After submitting the preliminary application, you will hear from the DIS North American Office (NAO) via e-mail with instructions on how to proceed.

Full Application

Qualified students who will be admitted directly by DIS will be sent an application link after submitting a preliminary application. If you have already accessed and saved the application form, use the Username and Password that you created yourself on your first visit.

Most students apply via their home university, typically through the study abroad office, who can admit students directly without DIS approval. Applying directly to DIS, however, does not complicate the process nor have any bearing on admission chances.

Student Registration

Once you have been admitted DIS either by your home institution or by DIS directly, you will receive a DIS Username & Password from your home university’s study abroad advisor or from DIS. Please visit the DIS Student Registration page and register for courses, housing, optional study tours and other elements of the DIS study abroad program. Register as soon as possible after receiving your log-in details as courses, housing and tours fill up on a first-come, first-served basis!

Application Eligibility and Deadlines

Students enrolled at any US or Canadian college/university – both DIS partner and non-partner – can apply to DIS.

Students in Russia, Poland, Czech Rep., Korea and China must be at a DIS-affiliated university to apply.

Courses are designed for upper-level undergraduates (3rd-4th year). Some DIS programs also admit graduate students. Normally, a cumulative B average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) is required, though applicants not meeting this requirement may be considered.

The preferred deadlines for direct application to DIS are:

  • April 1 for summer sessions I and II
  • May 1 for summer Architecture & Design program courses
  • May 15 for fall and year
  • November 1 for spring.

*If you apply through your home university, deadlines are set by them.
